Test drive the car on the road with smooth acceleration so that the engine speed (RPM) exceeds 3500 RPM. Repeat the procedure a couple of times so that the engine control module (ECM) can carry out diagnostics. Connect the VCT2000 (or appropriate scan tool) to the data link connector without switching off the engine. Read the diagnostic status and fault status for the diagnostic trouble code by selecting the diagnostic trouble code in the list. NOTE: If the engine is switched off, the stored fault status will be erased and the test drive will have to be repeated. Check the fault status for the diagnostic trouble code when the scan is "Implemented". When the function is correct the fault status should be "No fault found" when the scan is implemented.
