TSB : Exterior Mirror Glass - Spotter, Trailer Tow: Installation

Place the new spotter glass assembly down on a smooth firm surface. Align the friction pins vertically to the spotter glass backing plate socket and push down to snap the pivot ball into the socket. Fig 1: Locating Friction Pins Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO. NOTE: Do not overheat the spotter glass backing plate. Heat only until backing plate is warm to the touch (approximately 10 seconds). Fig 2: Locating Main Pivot Socket In Spotter Glass Backing Plate With Heat Gun Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO. Using the Heat Gun, warm the main pivot socket in the spotter glass backing plate. Align the friction pins to the grommets and push in. WARNING: Place a shop towel between the hands and the exterior mirror glass for protection in case of glass breakage during mirror service. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury. NOTE: The spotter glass can break if pressure is not applied directly over the pivot socket. Fig 3: Locating Spotter Glass Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO. Align the spotter glass backing plate pivot socket to the exterior mirror pivot ball and push with the thumb over the socket.
