TSB : Gear Oil, Draining And Filling, Transmission With Combined Oil System

Special tools and workshop equipment required Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500 Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit VAS6617 Protective eyewear Draining The engine is off. Move the vehicle onto a 4-column shop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level. Transmission is in "P". The parking brake button should be activated to close the electro-mechanical parking brake. NOTE: Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION . Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS . Follow the disposal requirements. Replace the drain plug and gasket. -- Remove the rear noise insulation -2-, refer to Noise Insulation . Fig 1: Removing Noise Insulation Courtesy of AUDI OF AMERICA, LLC -- Remove the rear part of the right front wheel housing liner, refer to Wheel Housing Liner . -- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction UnitSMN372500 under the transmission. Wear protective eyewear. -- Remove the drain plug -arrow B- from the front final drive and drain the transmission fluid. CAUTION: Danger of causing damage to the transmission. Do not start the engine if there is no transmission oil in the front final drive. -- Tighten the new drain plug on the front final drive -arrow B-. -- Vehicles with a 6.3L FSI engine: remove the tunnel crossmember, refer to TUNNEL CROSSMEMBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH 8-/12-CYLINDER ENGINE . -- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500 under the transmission. Wear protective eyewear. -- Remove the drain plug -arrow B- from the center differential housing and drain the transmission fluid. CAUTION: Danger of causing damage to the transmission. Do not start the engine when there is no ATF in the transfer case. -- Tighten the new drain plug on the center differential housing -arrow B-. -- Vehicles with a 6.3L FSI engine: install the tunnel crossmember, refer to TUNNEL CROSSMEMBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH 8-/12-CYLINDER ENGINE . Filling and Adjusting Gear oil temperature: approximately 20 °C (68 °F) (room temperature). -- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500 under the transmission. Wear protective eyewear. -- Remove the plug -arrow A- from the front final drive. -- Install the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 6VAS6617/6 with the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 2VAS6617/2 in the inspection and fill hole in the front final drive. Fig 5: Installing Adapter VAS 6617/6 & Adapter VAS 6617/2 Into Transmission Hand-Tight Courtesy of AUDI OF AMERICA, LLC -- Connect the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit VAS6617 and fill the front final drive with approximately 1 liter of gear oil. Transmission fluid. -- Wait five minutes. NOTE: A waiting time of at least 5 minutes is required so that the internal oil level between the differential and oil fill space can equalize. -- Remove the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 6VAS6617/6 from the transmission and let any extra oil drain out. -- Install the old plug. -- Remove the drain plug -arrow A- from the center differential housing. Fig 6: Drain Gear Oil From Transfer Case Courtesy of AUDI OF AMERICA, LLC -- Install the adapter Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 6VAS6617/6 with the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 2VAS6617/2 in the inspection and fill hole in the transfer case hand-tight. Fig 7: Installing Adapter VAS 6617/6 & Adapter VAS 6617/2 In Inspection & Fill Hole In Transfer Case Courtesy of AUDI OF AMERICA, LLC -- Connect the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit VAS6617 and fill the transfer case with approximately 1 liter of gear oil. Transmission fluid. -- Wait five minutes. NOTE: The inside of the transfer case is divided into several oil chambers. The chambers must be filled equally. A waiting time of at least 5 minutes is required so that the internal oil level between the center differential and oil fill space can equalize. -- Remove the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 6VAS6617/6 from the transmission and let any extra oil drain out. -- Install the old plug. -- Perform a road test for 10 to 15 minutes. NOTE: The fluid distributes evenly during the road test. -- Check the gear oil level, and fill, refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING, TRANSMISSION WITH COMBINED OIL SYSTEM . Tightening Specifications Refer to ATF CIRCUIT OVERVIEW => Drain and Sealing Plug .
