Bulletin Number: 99-10 Group: 91 Date: Dec. 9,1999 Subject: Premium V Radio, Scan Tool Testing Warning Model(s): All with Premium V Radio CONDITION: Premium V radio causing excessive battery drain. May be caused by disconnecting test equipment (Scan tools VAG 1551, 1552 or VAS 5051) prior to exiting a test sequence. SERVICE: Premium V Radio, identifying Can readily be identified by the "MID" button -3- (mid range) to the left of the volume control knob -4- and the "F/B" button -5- (fader/balance) to the right as shown. When performing diagnostic on the audio system: - Always make sure to exit the test before removing test connector. If the radio is communicating to the instrument cluster and the scan tool connector is removed before properly exiting the test, the radio may enter a "Stand-By Mode". ^ This will cause the radio to draw excessive current when ignition is switched OFF Measure current drain using the following criteria: ^ Must wait minimum 15 minutes after ignition key is removed before measuring ^ Measure directly in current flow of battery ^ Ignition key removed, ALL accessories and lights switched OFF ^ Hood switch disconnected ^ Doors and hatch closed Typical system current drain (ignition key in OFF position) is approx. 25 to 45 mA and can be as high as 65 mA. If radio is in stand-by mode, it may draw in excess of 320 milliamps. To return radio to normal operation: - Remove radio power fuse and and wait approx. 5-10 seconds, then reinstall fuse. ^ Radio will return to normal operation.
