TSB 850-2528: Restraints - Pyrotechnic Device Component Usage

Technical Service Bulletins

Affected years: February 2005

Details

Bulletin Number: 850-2528 Date: February 2005 Market: all Used pyrotechnic components Cars affected All Saab cars equipped with an airbag system. Background When replacing pyrotechnic components, e.g. airbags and belt tensioners, new spare parts must always be used for safety reasons. The reasons that used pyrotechnic components must not be fitted are as follows: ^ Each component is tuned and coordinated with other safety features in the car such as seatbelts, steering wheel, seats and dashboard. Incorrect handling can result in the wrong component being installed which will then not function optimally with other safety features. For this reason, always check which part number is valid for the new spare part. ^ To ensure that a pyrotechnic component is not re-used from car to car. This could mean that the component would be used for a longer time than that for which it was designed. ^ When handling used components it cannot be guaranteed how the part was handled and stored. Storage and handling instructions must be observed. ^ When handling used components, there is no scope for traceability in the event of any campaigns. ^ In order to prevent the sale of stolen pyrotechnic components. Parts required Not affected Disclaimer
