NOTE: This is a Warranty Information bulletin. INFORMATION During the recent review of battery claims, we found that there is still some confusion of the proper coding to be used. We are modifying the procedures and guidelines for processing of battery warranty claims to improve the accuracy. These changes become effective as of January 15, 1998. For OE (Original Equipment) batteries installed in the car from the factory replaced under warranty: Code as: Warranty Code: 2 Warranty Type: SD Repair Order Number: from your repair order Part Identifier: 2706 Defect Code: Consult Suggested Repair Times Microfiche Vendor Code: Consult Suggested Repair Times Microfiche NOTE: To obtain the correct vendor code, find the vendor's 3 character code, i.e. AWH (Hagen), DT0 (Deta), MLA (Moll), VAO (Varta) etc. on the battery removed from the car, then consult SRT microfiche. For failed Deta-Douglas batteries (Vendor Code DDB) replaced under parts warranty: Code as: Warranty Code: D Warranty Type: DD Repair Order Number: from your repair order number Part Identifier: 2706 Defect Code: Consult Suggested Repair Times Microfiche Vendor Code: DDB (Deta-Douglas Battery) NOTE: Vendor Code DDB is valid for Warranty Code D claims only. SERVICE INFORMATION All battery claims MUST be supported by a fully completed Porsche Cars N.A. Battery Check sheet (Part Number, PNA 000 132). A copy of the check sheet must be retained with the repair order in the vehicle's service file. Refer to Technical Bulletin, Group 2, #9204 for more information. If battery failure was due to damage from another component, this warranty code does not apply. If vehicle is in warranty, claim is submitted under warranty code 2, coded to the component that caused battery failure, i.e. fan relay stuck "on" causing battery drain, use Part ID 19lO (fan relay). All batteries replaced under warranty must be properly tagged with a Porsche Warranty Tag (Part Number PNA 000 029). If the claim is for a failed replacement battery, all spare part warranty information, including the spare part install date and elapsed mileage must be listed. The customer's complaint and reason for replacement must be listed in the remarks section of the tag. The sticker (part number, PNA 000 157) identifying the battery as warranty must be affixed to the battery. This is only for Deta-Douglas batteries. This sticker will alert Deta-Douglas that this is a warranty (not a junk) battery. Additional stickers can be ordered through our Parts Department. All warranty claims for defective Deta-Douglas batteries will be coded R27 (hold battery for Deta-Douglas pick up and submit documents). The Error Report must be signed by your Deta-Douglas Representative at time of pick up. This includes the representative's name, written legibly and signed. All supporting documentation along with the Error Report must be mailed to your respective Warranty Specialist at Porsche Cars N.A. NOTE: All OE battery claims (Varta, Moll, Hagen) will also be coded R27 and should also be held for Deta-Douglas pickup, but only as a core. All batteries replaced under warranty must be picked up by your Deta-Douglas Representative. The representative is required to leave you a Delivery Ticket (Receipt) of pick up. That form must be kept with the repair order in the VIN file. It is your responsibility to contact your Deta-Douglas Representative to have all batteries picked up on a regular basis. NOTE: Warranty Claims cannot be processed until the battery is picked up and the documentation is received at Porsche. Your Warranty Claim will be subject to non-payment under the following conditions: Battery is not available for pick up. Batteries found not defective or in a discharged condition by Deta-Douglas. Contact your Deta-Douglas Representative to arrange for return of the battery. Error Report is not signed by Deta-Douglas Representative. Battery check sheet is missing or incomplete. Current and previous repair order is missing or incomplete. This includes customer signed repair order. Your adherence to these procedures will assure smooth processing of your battery warranty claims. Please advise all respective personnel of these procedures.
