TSB : Single CARDAN Universal Joint (Flange Yoke) Disassembly/Assembly): Disassembly

Details

Remove the propeller shaft; see PROPELLER SHAFT REAR (4X2) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION or See PROPELLER SHAFT REAR (4X4) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . CAUTION: Do not clamp the propeller shaft in a vise or similar holding fixture. Place the propeller shaft on a suitable workbench, being careful not to damage the tube. NOTE: If components are not marked and installed correctly, driveline imbalance can occur. Mark the positions of the propeller shaft components. Fig 1: Marking Positions Of Propeller Shaft Components Courtesy of MAZDA MOTORS CORP. Clamp U-Joint Tool SST 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) or equivalent in a vise. Remove all four of the snap rings. Remove the propeller shaft flange yoke. Position the propeller shaft flange yoke in U-Joint Tool SST 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) or equivalent. Press out a bearing cup. Remove the propeller shaft flange yoke. Press on the spider to remove the remaining bearing cup. Remove the propeller shaft flange yoke. Reposition the propeller shaft in U-Joint Tool SST 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) or equivalent. Press out the bearing cup. Rotate the propeller shaft. Press on the spider to remove the remaining bearing cup.
