TSB : Removal & Installation (XJ6)

Details

Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect battery cables, and remove battery. Remove spare wheel and tire assembly. Using a suitable container, drain fuel from fuel tank. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect fuel inlet and return lines from fuel tank. Lower vehicle. Remove spare tire and jack. Remove trunk carpet and trim panels if necessary. Remove spare tire mounting bracket. Note location of fuel pump and fuel sending unit wiring harness connectors for installation reference, and disconnect wires. Remove hoses from evaporative flange. See Figure . Disconnect drain tube from filler housing. See Fig 1 . Open filler flap, and remove fuel filler cap. See Fig 2 . Remove filler cap seal. Remove filler housing mounting bolts. Disconnect fuel tank retaining straps and position aside. Disconnect all necessary hoses and wiring connectors for fuel tank removal. Remove fuel tank and filler housing as an assembly.
