Electronic stabilisation program (ESP)  warning lamp lights up continuously

Symptoms

["A malfunction in the ESP is indicated.", "If the battery has been disconnected, the system will perform an initialisation while you drive the first few metres. The lamp will go out when completed.", "If the lamp stays on, the control system may have temporarily switched off the ESP. Reactivate by switching the ignition off and then on again."]
